Today our publication on the use of beta-Ta as a hydrogen sensing material became online! In this work, we explore and show that the tetragonal phase of tantalum, beta-tantalum, can be used as a hydrogen sensing material. Despite the large difference in structure with the body-centered cubic alpha-tantalum, beta tantalum also features a hysteresis-free response to hydrogen across a wide range of hydrogen pressures/concentrations. This, combined with a large optical response when the material absorbs hydrogen, makes it an excellent hydrogen sensing material.
